PROPAL

Propal produces fine papers for the printing industry, writing and office supplies using sugar cane fiber, a sub-product of the sugar cane industry, as its basic raw material. This is a fibrous resource, optimum for producing high quality paper that favorably competes with papers produced from wood fibers.

Propal was founded in 1957 by W.R. Grace and Co. In 1961, International Paper Company became one of its main shareholders. In 1997, both companies sold their shares in the company and in 2004 Propal becoming part of the Carvajal Organization.

By using a sugar cane sub-products, Propal contributes with forest preservation and thus, with the protection of the environment. Propal's papers are well accepted by very selective international buyers and are catalogued as “Friends of Nature”.

The industrial activity of Propal strictly follows the ecological principles of respect for the environment: the management of effluent liquids, air emissions and the implementation of programs for the recuperation of chemical products in its plants surpasses both local and national government standards, and investments made in this area are focused in maintaining state-of-the-art production, in line with the key purpose of taking care of the environment.
